It was in 2011 when Brodie suffered with a sore leg which his GP thought was a torn ligament, scans later showed that Brodie actually had Osteosarcoma a type of Bone Cancer. Brodie went on to receive chemotherapy and surgery which he received at Princess Alexandra Hospital (PA) which is a 7 hour journey from his hometown Tannum Sands.
