February 26th 2004 will be a day Tom will forever remember, it was the day he found out he had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma – Stage 1a. At 18 years old he was just your typical student enjoying life and was in complete control. Tom only had one symptom – a lump at the right side of his neck, which he put off seeing a GP about. The GP sent Tom to a specialist and after further investigations the diagnosis was made. Tom started to research into everything cancer/Hodgkin’s Lymphoma related and felt powerless at the possible side effects of the drugs. Since finishing treatment Tom has found life difficult to deal with and has received a great deal of support for his anxiety problems and depression. Tom went onto finish his History degree but knew he wanted to go into Medicine, now seven years on he’s back at University studying Medicine and hoping to eventually go into the world of oncology.
