FYSOT ’14 – Abbie’s Story
In 2010, Abbie started college when she first started to become tired and withdrawn. Abbie’s parents thought she was just going through a rebellious teenage phase. Whilst Abbie was taking her AS Levels, Abbie visited her GP to have a blood test that showed Abbie had an underactive thyroid but after an examination a small lump was also found which was followed up with further tests including a biopsy, however that came back inconclusive so Abbie had to have further surgery. Eventually Abbie was told that she had thyroid cancer. Abbie talks about the impact her cancer has had on her including how damaging the myth is that thyroid cancer is the best cancer you can have.
